Out-of-plane stability design of steel beams by second-order inelastic analysis with strain limits

چکیده

An accurate and consistent approach to the out-of-plane stability design of steel beams structures utilising second-order inelastic analysis with strain limits is proposed. The method implemented using computationally efficient beam elements, ultimate structural resistance defined either by (i) load factor or (ii) at which a limit, determined on basis continuous strength (CSM), attained, whichever occurs first. Thus far, has been established for in-plane components; in present paper, its scope extended, first time scenarios effects, focus lateral–torsional buckling (LTB), govern. accuracy safety are assessed against results nonlinear shell finite element (FE) modelling. It shown that proposed consistently provides more than traditional LTB prEN 1993-1-1.
